Happy Mother's Day

My Mother's Day started with the opening of two presents from two very excited girls. Kate gave me a framed letter she had written about the many things she likes about me. My favorite part of her letter was: "You can do things other Mom's can't do." Darn strait! I am not sure what some of those things are but they probably involve touching bugs, rodents and other creepy crawlies. I generally am not afraid of anything in the creepy crawly department and I am proud to say I think my girls think I am the coolest because of it.

Ella informed me on Friday when she brought home my Mother's Day present from school that it was made of glass. Lately she is really interested to know what things are made of. Usually the answer is plastic, plastic and more plastic. She gave me a lovely little votive decorated with tiny pieces of crepe paper and a yummy smelling candle. She was so pleased with herself and was just bursting with pride that she had made me something. Loved it - and her!

Later that day we had dinner at my parents house and then went up Rose Creek Canyon for a little hike. We had not been hiking for a while and I forgot how fun it is. We had a blast exploring and playing with my Mom's two Jack Russell Terriers. We nicknamed Ella "hiker girl" because despite feeling crummy (I think she has allergies!) she was a trooper and hiked most of the way in and out.

I caught a garter snake to show to the kids. My cousins and I used to catch them all the time as kids and I remembered they have a weird smell which I did not like. Of course because she is my Mom, she had gloves that I used to handle the snake. Why wouldn't you need gardening gloves on a hike. I can't think of a reason why not!

We found wild turkey feathers all over the place and the most
logical place to put them seemed to be our hair.
